What is an RSS Feed Reader? The software used to manage RSS Feeds is called an RSS Reader, Aggregator or feed reader.

A standard XML file format ensures compatibility across platforms so you don’t have to have a separate technology for different types of users. RSS Feeds enable publishers to syndicate data automatically.

RSS Feeds uses web feed formats to publish frequently updated information like blog entries, podcasts, news headlines.Īn RSS document is the feed or channel and includes full or summarized text and metadata like the publish date and authors name. I like Really Simple Syndication because it actually describes what an RSS Feed does.Īnd that is to syndicate content and it is simple to subscribe and unsubscribe to a feed. I originally thought that RSS actually did stand for Really Simple Syndication but the correct term for the technology is Rich Site Summary. It was originally called RDF Site Summary but most people actually refer to RSS as Really Simple Syndication. So you are wondering what RSS stands for? What does RSS stand for?

You may understand the concept of what an RSS Feed does, but what does the acronym mean? There is a lot of confusion here and some people (myself included) use the unofficial description of what RSS stands for. You subscribe once and all subsequent content in that feed is delivered automatically. As a subscriber, you will get the content delivered to you automatically. The benefit here is that you don’t have to remember to go back to the website in order to consume the content. The new content is pushed to you as soon as it is published. From that point on you will receive the content, an excerpt of the content, or at the very least a notification of new content. RSS Feeds allow you to subscribe to the content that you don’t want to miss. If so, then you have utilized RSS Feeds before and may not have been aware of it. Have you ever subscribed to a podcast in iTunes, a smartphone podcast app or have you ever used a feed reader like Google Reader or Feedly? It is the technology behind how a podcast (or blog) is syndicated over the web. It is over 8 characters long, mixed case, alpha numeric but surely that would work.An RSS Feed is what makes a podcast a podcast. Is what I have been trying with no success, the PW is obviously not my password, but I have modified it remove all special characters. I like the material here or I would have long since bailed, I hope someone is looking here in the forums as well. I have emailed support again, if I don't have access prior to the 15th I will assume I need to cancel the subscription that is coming out on the 25th. I guess we all just need to vote with our Premium Account subscriptions.

I thought it was working once and it may have kinda after Brad did something, then after getting the free Friday podcast that was the last podcast I saw. It doesn't work from Chrome so I suspect that is why it also doesn't work from Pocketcast, Overcast, Castro or Apple's Podcast app. On the Pay link If you try and use your UN:PW combination you will always get denied and it will ask you to log in again. If you have any other questions about the podcast, premium or anything else that we do, happy to address them in the comments.

We have received several requests for a video only RSS feed we are currently have this option in our pipeline and I’ll update this post when that feature becomes available. We know that everyone will not become a premium subscriber, if you are interested – this link will save 25% – valid until the end of the year, but still want access to the podcasts on Friday simply add this URL to your podcast reader. In the event that your app prompts you and your credentials are rejected, please double check you entered them correctly and if that does not solve the issue, please create a thread in the forum and we can assist you there. Enter the URL as follows: /feed/first-ring-daily

If your podcast app does not support authentication, you can try a second method that has had good results for our listeners.

If it does, the RSS feed that you need is here, add that URL to your RSS reader and it (provided your app supports it) will prompt you to enter your login and password (this is the same as your credentials). The first thing you will need to determine is if your podcast app supports authentication. So, outlined below are the steps needed to subscribe and the links you will need. If you are a premium member, you have access to the video/audio all days of the week and everyone can access the podcast on Friday (both video and audio).īecause I get several emails a week asking how Premium members can subscribe to the RSS feed of the podcast, it’s time to write a post. Every day of the week, Paul and I host a podcast called First Ring Daily.
